About
The Jefferson City Area YMCA uses the National YMCA Swim Program, which stresses safety and skill. At each level, participants are involved in activities related to the following five components:

  • Personal Safety
  • Stroke Development
  • Water Sports and Games
  • Rescue Skills
  • Personal Growth and Fitness

Classes meet for 45 minutes.

Registration and Cost
Registration will be taken at either YMCA front desk or by calling (573) 761-9000 or (573) 761-9015. You can also register online by clicking on the "Register" link next to each class. Aquatics staff reserves the right to make appropriate changes to class levels based upon the child's demonstration of skills.

Make-up and Credit Policy
Make-ups are not offered for missed classes. For credit information, please refer to the credit policy listed in the front of the program guide. All credit arrangements must be made through the Aquatics office at (573) 761-9007.

Inclement Weather
Early morning lap swim will be cancelled when the Jefferson City Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather. The Knowles YMCA will open at 8 a.m.

Pool Schedules and Closures
Click on the link below for a copy of our pool schedules. From November 1 through March 31, the Knowles Indoor Pool will close at 6:00 p.m. on weekends. Beginning April 1, the pool will close at 4:30 p.m. on weekends.

Supervision of Children
During recreational swims, an adult (18 years & up) MUST accompany children 7 years of age and under in the water. An adult MUST accompany children 8-13 years of age in the pool area.

These classes are offered for children who are members of Jefferson City Home Educators program. Cards must be presented at time of registration.

OTHER LESSONS

High School and Adult Program - Summer CLICK TO REGISTER
T.O.W. is designed for the high school and adult individual who is fearful of the water. A low teacher/student ratio will help the participant relax and learn to enjoy the water.

High School and Adult Program - Fall CLICK TO REGISTER
Participants learn correct swimming techniques, basic lifesaving skills and safety. The teacher/student ratio is 1:6 for all classes. These classes are ideal for both beginning and advanced swimmers. Classes meet for 45 minutes.

Private Lessons
Private swim lessons are offered to YMCA members and non-members. They consist of 6 (six), 30 minute classes (one swimmer per instructor). Lessons are limited to instructor and pool availability. Cancellation or rescheduling of appointments requires 24-hour notice. For additional information or to schedule lessons, please call Pat Gladbach at (573) 761-9007.
Fee: $95 for Y-Members $145 for Non-Members
